Also, at that time, Epik High had a comeback with songs like "Born Hater" and "Happen Ending". I saw a few posts on Netizenbuzz and the response towards the song were very positive. I decided to give the 2 songs a try. But, it turned out that I didn't like them that much. Lyrically they were great, but musically, it was just not my taste.
About 2 years later, I was randomly playing songs on youtube. Just follow whatever youtube suggested me. And boom, I came across Love Love Love. I have to say I love it from the first few notes, because of how beautiful it is. The moment I read the English translation (My Korean understandings are extremely limited), I fall in love with the song even more.
What is Love Love Love about?
It is your typical heartbreak song, depicting the feelings and thoughts of a person in love before and after breaking up. I think the song is written in the viewpoint of a girl, because there is a line that said "Run towards him like crazy". Nonetheless, the song is applicable to everyone that has fallen in love and getting hurt by love. In the 1st verse, the song depicts the excitement and nervousness of the girl who is crazily in love with a guy. On the other hand, the 2nd verse goes through what a person did and how she felt after breaking up with the guy.
How is the lyrics?
I am not a music expert, so I will not comment much about the music of the song. However, I like to write lyrics myself, so I will tell you how I feel about the lyrics of Love Love Love. There is nothing complex about the lyrics. There is no metaphor or anything like that. The lyrics means exactly what it is. Yet, this is what makes it so good. The lack of complex idea helps the audience focuses better on the emotions carried by the lyrics. If you have ever been in love and have ever broken up despite still having some emotions left, you will sympathy with every actions and feelings of the girl in the song.
Furthermore, something special that I recognise from the first time hearing the song is almost every line end with the word "jeong". So I was curious what does this word even mean? And this is what I find on the website seoulistic.com:
Jeong (in its Korean meaning) is a very broad concept in Korea and is a really important part of Korean people and culture. But it's really hard to define (even in Korean!). It can be considered love, but that's too simple of a definition. It also includes affection, compassion, sympathy, community, attachment, etc.
Just one single word, yet it carries the whole meaning and idea behind the song. No wonder Tablo is considered a lyrical genius.
What my rating for Love Love Love?
Music: 7.5 (it's just my impression)
Content: 5 (the topic is nothing new, and too overused for me)
Lyrics: 8
So, tell me what do you guys think about Love Love Love by Epik High? Do you agree with my rating or not?
